The Abyssinian Baptist Church

The Abyssinian Baptist church began with the merger of two churches. The Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York city, is known as one of the oldest African-American Baptist churches in the northern states.

In 1808, a group of Africans and Ethiopians who lived in America went to the Baptist church in lower Manhattan. This group refused to accept racial segregation. The mission of the Abyssinian Baptist church is to win more souls for Christ. By the use of evangelism, pastoral care, social service delivery, Christian education, and community development. The ancient nation, where the group of Ethiopians came from, inspired them.

These African-Americans, accompanied by a group of Ethiopian merchants. They were not willing to accept racially segregation. They established placed themselves in a building on the Anthony street. Later they decided to call themselves the Abyssinian Baptist church. The name was inspired by the ancient name of the nation from the Ethiopians. They set themselves in New York.

The Abyssinian church has one mission, and that is to win more souls for Christ. The goal of the Abyssinian church is to let a membership grow, that will be educated enough in the world of god, and will have a strong relationship with Christ. The growth of personal spirituality is very important to the Abyssinian Baptist church. They have adopted a vision program to enhance their membership and pastoral services.

It is their prayer that their members will spread the message and will be part of Jesus. This in their homes, hobs, communities, and church. The other goal they have is that they want to change the world, by changes their hearts, and their love to god, their savior Jesus Christ.

Essay

The Harlem Renaissance is about what was involved and what the Harlem Renaissance was. It is also about how it came about. There is a lot dealing with the Renaissance. There have been a lot of people with a great motivation to help out. This was not just an explosion of African American history. It was a new beginning for blacks and our future. It gave African Americans pride in them. It made them feel like anything and everything was possible. That nothing could stop them. Nothing could stand in their way. The people involved became very important and intense to African American history and to black culture. They became very famous. But, that’s not just all of it. It is much more. There was a contrast between what they did and how others did it. This made them special and famous.
The Harlem Renaissance happened during the 1920s and 1930s. It was known as the “New Negro Movement”. It was a time when intellectual growth was at the peak for African Americans. An important figure to the Renaissance was a man named Hubert Harrison. He founded the newspaper called The Voice. This newspaper was political but also focused a great deal of the arts. It sparked uniqueness and self-confidence. It redefined how people all over America and the world, viewed African Americans.
There are a lot of things people can name that happened during the Harlem Renaissance. They name how much art was involved. They can name all the artists and writers. That would be a very long list! There were a lot of concepts involved, that it would take days to list them. There were some organizations involved also. It helped recognize African Americans too. It helped black people feel important. This event help African Americans become recognized in America. It put African Americans on the map. This has gone down in African American history forever. This is a great factor in black people lives. This was one of the first American moments. This is very important to my history and other African Americans. Every African American should know about this. This is objective for the history of America.

Harlem Renaissance

Harlem Renaissance

The Harlem renaissance was a cultural movement that started in the 1920's and ended in the 1930's. During this time talented African-American writers produced a piece of literature in the four genres of poetry, fiction, drama and essay. At that time the Harlem renaissance was known as the new Negro movement. With racism all economic opportunities scarce, creative expression was one of the few avenues available to African Americans in the early twentieth century.
As World War I was approaching the European people that lived in Harlem started moving away as the labor stopped flowing in New York City. After that, many African-Americans started coming to Harlem from the south, not only looking for jobs, but also to escape the racism of the people from the south. Many Africans Americans started moving from the south to urban areas of the north because it was a more racially tolerant environment. In the north there were also plenty of job positions for those black people who were migrating from the south.

This gave her the opportunity to study in Paris for one year. When she came back home from Europe, Augusta Savage started teaching in the Harlem community to share her experiences. In 1932, Augusta established the Savage Studio of arts. After a few years, she became the first director of the Harlem community arts center, where she played a very important role in the development of young African-American artists.

Most important piece

Augusta savage’s piece, Gamin, was an icon of the Harlem arts center, as her most important piece. Sculpted in plaster over a weekend, Gamin, is widely considered her best-known and most successful sculpture, for its young, attractive and smart looks. Although Juanita Holland discovered that the identity of Gamin is actually that of Savage's young nephew.

The New Negro debate

For my English class I read two poems. I poem of Countee Cullen called, Yet do I Marvel, and a poem from Claude McKay called, The White House. I really enjoyed reading these poems and so I am going to give you guys my personal opinion to the structure used in these poems.

Today I read a poem from Countee Cullen. While reading his poem I got his point of view of the poem: Yet Do I marvel - Countee Cullen. The writer wants to show that black and white people have equal rights. You can identify this by looking at his use of language. He uses a lot of Greek words. If you are not Greek you need to have the knowledge to understand his poem. In the end, the poem offers more than the personal perspective of a Black poet. It speaks not just of the Black condition but of the human condition. All humans feel the irony of a life filled with petty cares, with mysteries, with struggle and with death. In this poem the writer is using formal language. It seems that his poem is meant to be read by elderly people.

Today I read another poem form Claude McKay. When I started reading his poem The White House I immediately got his point of view. In contrast to the poem of Countee Cullen I read earlier today, Claude McKay thinks that black and white people should get equal rights as well. He thinks it in a different way. What he does is for example: women say we can drive a car. While he would say well women are ment to do other things like cook etc. This is how he writes. So basically do were you're good at. Compared to the use of language from Countee Cullen the use of language of Claude McKay is less formal.

I think that the writer Countee Cullen uses a better structure. My reason for this is that I think discrimination should stop. Every single person is the same in one way. No matter if you are black or white everyone should get equal rights. This is what they both think but i like the way Countee Cullen describes it. I like it when people say everyone can try out everything.
