The Abyssinian Baptist Church

The Abyssinian Baptist church began with the merger of two churches. The Abyssinian Baptist Church in New York city, is known as one of the oldest African-American Baptist churches in the northern states.

In 1808, a group of Africans and Ethiopians who lived in America went to the Baptist church in lower Manhattan. This group refused to accept racial segregation. The mission of the Abyssinian Baptist church is to win more souls for Christ. By the use of evangelism, pastoral care, social service delivery, Christian education, and community development. The ancient nation, where the group of Ethiopians came from, inspired them.

These African-Americans, accompanied by a group of Ethiopian merchants. They were not willing to accept racially segregation. They established placed themselves in a building on the Anthony street. Later they decided to call themselves the Abyssinian Baptist church. The name was inspired by the ancient name of the nation from the Ethiopians. They set themselves in New York.

The Abyssinian church has one mission, and that is to win more souls for Christ. The goal of the Abyssinian church is to let a membership grow, that will be educated enough in the world of god, and will have a strong relationship with Christ. The growth of personal spirituality is very important to the Abyssinian Baptist church. They have adopted a vision program to enhance their membership and pastoral services.

It is their prayer that their members will spread the message and will be part of Jesus. This in their homes, hobs, communities, and church. The other goal they have is that they want to change the world, by changes their hearts, and their love to god, their savior Jesus Christ.
